Product Carbon Footprint

We have taken the first step towards providing reliable and traceable data about the environmental footprint of our products: Heubach’s Product Carbon Footprints (PCF) methodology is certified by TÜV Rheinland, scientifically based, and state of the art.

Calculating the environmental impact of our products

The question about the environmental impact of our products becomes more important for companies, consumers und the society as a whole. Heubach has developed a Methodology to calculate PCFs for pigments thus taking the first step towards providing reliable and traceable data.

In accordance with the standard ISO 14067:2018, Green House Gas Protocol Product (GHG P) and Together for Sustainability (TfS) PCF Guideline the TÜV Rheinland concluded that Heubach’s PCF Methodology is scientifically based and reflects the state of the art. The approach and principles behind the Heubach PCF Methodology are generally appropriate for the assessment of potential Climate Change of chemicals and hence certified by TÜV Rheinland.

Combating Climate Change

Climate change is a global challenge that affects everyone. At Heubach we are aware that the production of pigments and pigment preparations is particularly energy intensive. We see it as our responsibility to reduce our emissions as much as possible.

We work continuously on production and process technology improvements and innovations to reduce our use of energy and resources while lowering our emissions.

You can’t improve what you don’t measure: in 2022 we started our journey to carbon neutrality by generating transparency on Heubach’s environmental impact.

The PCF is an established method for determining the climate impact of a product. It sums up all greenhouse gas emissions generated by a product over the different stages of its life cycle.

Heubach Product Carbon Footprint Methodology

We have developed our own calculation method: the Heubach PCF Methodology. It is in line with the most important calculation standards, scientifically sound and enables us to collect transparent and reliable data for all our products.

Our Product Carbon Footprints are calculated according to

  • Green House Gas Protocol Product (GHG P)
  • ISO Norm (ISO 14067: 2018)
  • Together for Sustainability (TfS) PCF Guideline

Our PCF provides transparency on emissions from scope 1, 2 and 3. The product carbon footprint calculation is based on GHG emissions from our plant, purchased energy and high-quality average data for purchased raw materials and transportations.

“Reliable, high-quality, scientific and transparent - at Heubach, this applies to our products and management as well as to our sustainability activities.”

Certified Product Carbon Footprint Methodology

The product carbon footprints are calculated according to the cradle-to-gate boundary system, i.e., covering the greenhouse gases emitted during production processes and material acquisition. The calculation of other environmental impacts (i.e., anything that happens after the products leave our factory gates) is beyond the scope of this calculation.

The results are unique and based on the assumptions and practices of Heubach Group. They do not serve as a basis for comparison with other companies and/or products.
